Stop the Cycle camp is starting!

June 6, 2023

Dear friends,

It’s camp season! Family camp for orphan-parented families started yesterday. Our students will have camp in August.

In Ukraine last month, I joined our moms for a Stop the Cycle meeting. Families trickled in the Shelter’s open gate, and soon parents and kids were crowded around the table eating sandwiches and fruit. Then the kids were dismissed, and Oksana began talking about summer camp.

You can send these families to summer camp!

A few parents are new this year, so Oksana introduced our three programs and explained Stop the Cycle’s name: “We want you to have good families.” She said that everybody needs a break from daily routines; camp gives parents a fresh start. Our staff also provides good teaching about parenting, tailored to the needs of the group. Last year’s babies are now toddlers!

Soon everyone was telling stories about family life in wartime. We’ve shared before about Lida (below, left), whose husband was wounded in action. “I wish my husband could go [to camp] with me too,” she said. “I hope he gets better and comes back to us.”

Every year, moms and dads who grew up without good role models find hope for their families at camp. This week away is especially important after a year and a half of exhausting war. Will you provide this retreat for our youth and families?

Camp costs:
$8,000 – Family camp
$10,000 – Camp for students
$18,000 – Total need

Our team perseveres in this important work even in the midst of war. Thank you for persevering in your support!

PS: Even though I only speak a little Ukrainian, I could see these very young parents relaxing with our staff. Their trust begins with practical help. After the meeting, Yuliana said, “Come with me, everyone who needs diapers.” A big group followed her. Will you help that trust grow by giving toward summer camps?
